Today we're testing the S2719DGF. It is a 2019 gaming monitor from Dell with a 144Hz TN panel, which can be overclocked to 155Hz. It is the successor to the popular S2716DG, but unlike the previous model this one supports FreeSync rather than G-Sync. In this review we will start by looking at the design and inputs of the monitor, and then move on to the picture quality. We will also look at the motion handling and input lag. We will be closely comparing

this monitor with the S2716DG, as well as the 4k LG 27UK650 and Samsung’s VA panel CHG70 gaming monitor. So we’ll start with the design. From the front, this monitor follows Dell’s typical design, with a small flat stand that supports the monitor well and feel stable. Unlike many other gaming monitors, it looks quite minimal without flashy LEDs. Some people may enjoy this more professional look. The build quality also feels good, without gaps or loose plastic so you shouldn’t have any issues with it in normal use. The stand also allows for a wide

range of ergonomic adjustments as you can adjust the height, swivel from side to side, tilt back and forth, and rotate to portrait. This is great for finding a comfortable viewing position. If we turn around to the back of the monitor, the most notable difference compared to most other Dell monitors is the color which is marketed as recon blue. Even this is a relatively subtle shade, but it does look good. This monitor also has a quick release at the stand attachment point to

reveal a VESA 100x100 mount. All of the inputs are directed down the bottom of the monitor. There are two HDMI ports, but only one supports HDMI 2.0 and neither of them allow for the overclocked refresh rate of 155Hz. There is also a display port connection, which is your best option if your device supports it. The monitor can also act as a USB 3.0 HUB, with two ports on the rear and two more under the left hand side of the monitor which are accessible from the

front. The control buttons are located on the right hand side of the monitor, and the menu and control scheme is intuitive and easy to use. So, now on to the picture quality. Like the S2716 this newer model has a TN type panel with bad viewing angles. When viewed a bit off-axis the colors loose accuracy and the black level raises. The vertical viewing angles are especially bad, so even when viewed from directly in-front the top and the bottom of the screen look different. If you view the screen from below then the black and white colors actually flip, causing an

inverted image. This may be an issue if you care about a uniform image and accurate colors over the whole screen, in which case a monitor with an IPS type panel like the LG is a better choice. Now if you’re in a bright room, then a high peak brightness can be important to overcome glare. This Dell monitor is very bright which is great, and shouldn’t have any problems, even in a room with lots of windows. The whole screen can stay the same brightness regardless of the content, which is good as changing brightness levels can be distracting.

Another important consideration in a bright room is the reflection handling of the screen coating itself. This monitor has a semi-gloss coating which diffuses reflections across the screen and reduces their intensity which is good. This is in-line with most other monitors we’ve tested and shouldn’t be an issue for most rooms. Now for those in a dark room, a high contrast ratio is important to produce deep blacks and detailed dark scenes. Unfortunately, the contrast of this monitor is disappointing, so in the dark blacks appear gray. This is in the same ballpark as the

S2716 and LG 27UK650, so for those in a dark room a monitor with a VA type panel may be a better choice, like the Samsung CHG70. Like most monitors, the S2719DGF doesn’t have local dimming to improve the dark scene performance. Also noticeable in a dark room are any black uniformity problems like backlight bleed or flashlighting. Unfortunately, this monitor is one of the worst we’ve tested, as there is a noticeable ring around the center of the monitor in dark scenes. This does vary between units, and it is possible that ours is much worse than normal but we have been contacting by readers who have a similar pattern on their monitor. Now, this

monitor doesn’t support HDR, but this isn’t unusual as most monitors currently don’t support it. It also doesn’t support components of HDR like a wide color gamut, so the HDR Samsung CHG70 may be a better choice if you want more vivid colors. The ability to display gradients smoothly can also be important if you care about avoiding banding in games. The S2719DGF can’t display 10 bit gradients, but can display 8 bit gradients with only minor banding noticeable in some colors. This is about average of the monitors we’ve tested and some banding

may be noticeable in challenging scenes like skies. So both the 2016 model S2716 and the S2719 have a native refresh rate of 144Hz which is excellent. This results in smoother motion in fast-paced games and low input lag, which we’ll talk about later. Unlike the 2016 model, this monitor also has an option in the on screen display to overclock or increase the refresh rate up to 155Hz which is great. As long as your graphics card can handle it there are no downsides to doing this, but it is only available via display port. Another difference with this 2019 model is

FreeSync support for variable refresh rates, as opposed to g-sync on the 2016 model. Now that both AMD and Envidia graphics cards work with FreeSync, this is a more versatile option. We tested support with our GTX 1060 6GB and didn’t have any compatibility issues all the way up to 144Hz or 155Hz when overclocked which is great. We have heard reports of some people experiencing momentary flicker though, so it may depend on your individual setup or the game. Unfortunately, one feature that is lacking compared to the predecessor is the ULMB or

backlight flicker option to clear up fast paced motion. For most people this isn’t a big downside though, as the flicker can be distracting or uncomfortable. This Dell monitor has a very fast response time, which is great for reducing the amount of motion blur. There are three response time settings which adjust the overdrive. ‘Normal’ is the default and is very quick, so should be a good option for most people. If you don’t mind overshoot then you can set it to ‘Fast’, but this does produce noticeable haloing around fast moving objects. ‘Superfast’ is the extreme setting

and results in significant overshoot so we don’t recommend it. Now, input lag is often closely linked to the refresh rate of monitors as much of the input lag delay is due to the scan-out interval. As a result, the S2719 has a low input lag which is excellent and shouldn’t be an issue even for fast paced games. It remains at the same low input lag when using FreeSync too, which is great. So overall, the Dell S2719DGF is a great monitor for gaming due to the low input lag, high refresh rate, and fast response time. If you care about color accuracy or dark scene

performance though, then you may be disappointed. Compared to the previous model S2716DG, the most significant differences are the change from G-Sync to FreeSync and with it the loss of the ULMB feature to flicker the backlight and clear up motion. As far as picture quality goes the two models are very similar and although the S2719 we bought has worse black uniformity this may be due to panel variance. Now, if you do care about dark scene performance then the Samsung CHG70 may be a better choice. It has a VA-type panel with

deeper and more uniform blacks, as well as support for HDR and a wide color gamut. It also has a 144Hz refresh rate and the same 1440p resolution, so is a better choice for most people if you can afford it. On the other hand, if your room doesn’t get dark and you don’t care about the high refresh rate, then the LG 27UK650 may be a better choice. It has a higher resolution 4k panel which is great for multitasking. The IPS panel also provides more accurate colors and

better picture quality at an angle, which is good for those who care about an accurate image. So that's it! Let us know if you buy the S2719DGF and if how your black uniformity compares. You can check out all of the measurements on our website.

the del s 2719 DGF 27-inch gaming monitor it's 1440p 144 Hertz overclocked to 155 Hertz if you want as well as having DisplayPort and to HDMI one HDMI capable of 144 Hertz if you don't want to use the display people new setup here as you can see 27-inch monitor sitting dead center and looking at it if we open up control panel so going into our resolution you can see that our adult US 27:19 DGF is sitting at 2560 by 1440 AD 60 Hertz currently so save that at 144 there we go so we're now sitting at 2560 by 1440 144 Hertz and as you can see up here we also

have g-sync enabled for this monitor so g-sync is super great so it's adaptive refresh rate for nvidia cards and because we have our our TX only 60 in our system we can take advantage of that so gaming will be super smooth refresh rate will be adapted based on whatever the game is outputting so hopefully with this setup with our i7 8700 K and our text 2060 we can pretty much always achieve 144 Hertz at 14:40 and we'll put that to the test I'll probably load a fortnight up later in the video just to see if we can hit that 144 Hertz mark at 1440p but to be

honest the monitor is really really nice I'll show you guys real quick what 144 Hertz really looks like so it's it's super smooth it updates really quick it's 1 millisecond response time which is great than if we take a look at some of the settings so we have the ability to change the presets standard mode is probably the best so this is also a TN panel so it's not v8 or IPs so in the TN panel the contrast isn't spectacular the color isn't great but it has a super quick response time and very high refresh rate so you can also as you can see overclock bring that back up we can

overclock a refresh rate to 155 Hertz we can have free sync enabled in order to have g-sync enabled with our our TX card and I haven't response time set to normal at the moment but we can go over and set that to fast so based on what I've been looking at fast is probably the best rather than super fast or normal without having any sort of flooring effects or ghosting but as you can see there's a very minimal ghost thing when we move our control panel back and forth

you have super smooth really really quick which obviously the experience of pleasure on this versus our 22 inch HP 60 Hertz 1080p screens is second-to-none it's great quality screen I was debating on some other screens like the msi optics mac 27 but with that when you have the curved screen it is a VA panel rather than a TN but I sort of wanted the flat screen easier to sort of game on from my perspective so that's why I went with the del s 2719 DDF if I said that properly yeah it's a really great screen super super responses so here is 1440p 144 Hertz and if

we go over here to our other monitor for 22 inch HP this is 1080p at 60 Hertz so you can definitely see that ghosting , it's not terrible but there is a little bit of sort of that blur effect afterwards of course this kind of not g-sync enabled definitely not compatible with that it's just your basic desktop monitor but as soon as you bring it over to this our panel over here you can tell it's so much more smooth which is awesome so now I'm going to bring up fortnight and we'll just make sure we'll see how the game runs at 1440p 944 Hertz here we go guys we

loaded into fortnight and as you can see we're hovering right around 144 frames per second G sink of course enabled will allow our refresh rate to be adaptively displayed on our monitor to put depending on what our system is outputting so let's say we're outputting 120 Hertz the screen will adjust to that with G sink enabled but let's see the screen is as you can tell super super smooth great picture quality it's looking amazing and we're all wait we're really sticking at 144 Hertz pretty much no matter what diving down getting closer to the map we'll see if

maybe that changes , but even getting close to the knife we're still sitting at 144 Hertz so as you can tell there it's super quick in sort of adapting based on where I'm looking it's extremely quick to update and we're staying right up there at 144 Hertz so there you go guys finally got a new panel just running around so we're probably going to die but finally got the new panel and with the 27-inch 1440p monitor running at 144 Hertz I mean as you can tell here the game is so much better so much smoother color is fantastic it might be better let's say on an

IPS or a VA panel but with our TN it's pretty pretty good and the the resolution the refresh rate stands out a lot on this monitor so if you guys want check out the link below I'll post the link where I bought it off of Amazon super cheap the monitor which compared to some other monitors is really really good deal .

Dell S-Series 27-Inch Screen LED-Lit Gaming Monitor (S2719DGF) review

the del s 27 one nine DGF gaming monitor now this thing is a 144 Hertz 27-inch 2k monitor from Dell and what I want to do today is find out is it worth it to get a 2k monitor should you really make the jump to 4k and pay double that price or is even a 1080p monitor worth your time and then I'll be relating that specifically to this Dell monitor then I was forced to purchase because my MacBook Pro screen decided to give me those vertical lines that are infamous from a faulty ribbon and because in the current times I really didn't have much options regarding

sending it to an Apple service center so what I'm gonna be doing is taking you through this and unboxing this 27-inch gaming monitor I'm gonna try to highlight the best things about it and some of the drawbacks of this particular model now one of the things I did want to mention is that it's a very nice box it is well designed and I'm a sucker for nice boxes I mean I really do think that it speaks volumes about the manufacturer or the product designer that they really

care about how you feel about the product how easy it is to get it out and set it up and this definitely I liked about this Dell even though it's a lower priced model now one of the things worth mentioning is that this is in the round  range now one of the nice things also laid out on the box is the ports that are available and that is something I really wanted to touch on this thing comes with four USB ports one of them is just for charging your device and the other

three are USB 3.0 ports it does have an HDMI 1.4 port an HDMI 2.0 port a display 1.2 port you have your audio line out pork and among the other standard things like the security lock and the headphone port so that to me was a very complete package ok so let's look at what comes in the box you have the box laid out really nicely and in fact I missed one of the most important things with that was that this whole thing was designed for you to take that piece in my hand and clip it to the back of the screen before ever lifting it out the cables that this comes with of

high quality you get the USB cable that connects directly to your computer's USB port and that allows you to connect all your peripherals to the screen or and then you have your HDMI cable that allows you to connect directly to the screen as well now I would have probably preferred to have a DisplayPort but that wasn't available to me to test the base in the stand are very nice there ergonomic it comes with the instructions that you need and then once you have all of that out including the power you can just clip that piece on and there you have the screen so let's

jump into that now I really like to build quality it has an anti-glare screen the bezels are really thin I really did like that a lot the design the form factor is all perfect here you can take a look at the ports that are available just a little in close-up powers right under there and yeah I have to say this is one of the best looking screens especially if you consider the price point typically when you're going at a lower price point you have more bezels and and less ports and less convenience included but this one seems to have the whole package at a decent price point so

here we put it all together and you know it takes about 10 minutes to get everything put together just get all the cables in there's a little cable management hole that you can slot the wires through once you have it fired up it recognizes them or well the Mac recognizes it and screen is pretty fine it just shows up there and there you go you have a screen and now let's look a little bit about the details of the screen about the usability the colors saturation and things like that Oh admittedly my main use for this is going to be the work that I do taking classes following up on my work and things like that especially during this time so I won't be focusing

much on the gaming aspect for it if you would like to me to please just let me know and I'll go ahead and do that but for now let me just run you through all the different features so one of the main things that I noticed right off the bat is that the colors compared to OLED screens and will like are just not as great as they could be and I did fiddle around with the settings and here you can see there are a bunch of presets so as you know this thing is geared towards gaming so

you have your different presets named after different types of from first-person shooter to RPG and they mainly play around with a few settings so one of them is gonna be the brightness the second is the contrast the sharpness is the third and the last one to a certain degree is gonna be the color temperature so you'll see that there is a difference but generally speaking you're gonna see a little less of color vibrancy then you're probably used to with an OLED screen or

your laptop screen if that's what you're coming from I can definitely see that you'd have to get used to looking at one screen to the next if you're using it side by side with a more bright vibrant screen but that being said especially when the lights are dim this screen does look absolutely great it really does help you to get your work done okay so one of the interesting features it has is this cue sync function and that allows you to essentially play games that are very high refresh rate I did notice that on a Mac here just not as able to update the firmware as

easily as if you had a Windows machine I think that's one of the big drawbacks a lot of these monitors are gear are geared towards PC users and so the Mac users do end up with a harder time when it comes to updating getting the latest firmware on there and adjusting it to the Mac specific settings is that a big deal I think absolutely not but it would just feel good if we were able to take on these kind of things just as easy as PC users so let's get down to the main

question should you buy this over a 1080p monitor or a 4k monitor and where does this sit how happy am i with this purchase would I have wanted to invest more and go with a 4k monitor or would I have been equally as happy with a 1080p monitor and I think the simple answer to this question is resolution does matter when you're talking about the 1080p range I don't know what everybody's different use cases are but even when you're doing work and you have

multiple windows open and you want to be slightly more efficient I do believe that this 2k is about the bottom end of what you want to be at coming from a 1080p to a 2k monitor you will definitely notice a degradation in the quality on the other hand a 4k screen would make most sense if your media type heavily relies on that and what I mean by media is gaming and video so if you're not going to be watching a ton of videos on this and if your gaming is limited to more fast paced and not resolution heavy games I would definitely suggest you know saving the

extra cash and going with the to cake but on the other hand whether you're working or playing basic video games I would still recommend the 2k I'm actually really happy with it I can definitely see an upgrade in the future to a 4k monitor but it doesn't feel like I'm missing out on like if I can sum it up if you were in a position like mine where it's useful for what you do you do a lot of work on but media is not your main consumption of this monitor I think you'll be

just fine with a 2k monitor is this Dell monitor worth it I really do think it is it is it is fantastic and while the colors are a little washed out the price point is perfect .

the Dell s 27:19 gaming monitor
because I like it so much and a dual monitor setup would help with many of my workflows that being said let's crack this open got to begin with our special fish knife to cut the tape open back here bring this down and open it on up quite a big box which makes sense it's a big monitor right as you open up the packaging there's an HDMI cable to be found as a power cable to be found and the USB cable which basically allows the monitor to act as a USB hub there are four USB ports on the monitor in total here we have the base

plate for the monitor stand as you can see it twists back and forth so that you can change the angle of the monitor moving on we have the other part of the stand which connects to the monitor itself and goes on top of the base plate slides up and down for the monitor height to change and it will also rotate so that you can view the monitor in portrait or landscape mode and here we just have some warranty regular regulatory information nothing too exciting for

the same so instructions presumably then we take this protective layer out and we are left with the monitor itself I'm going to stand up to take this out here take out the monitor itself all right so now that we've broken the monitor out of its packaging let's take a look at the i/o itself and put together the monitor on its stand so when you look at the back of this monitor you see here that there are two USB ports there is the USB in for the USB hub this is in digital AV input and then here you have display port which is capable of the full hundred fifty-five Hertz here you

have hdmi 2.0 which is capable of 144 Hertz and then here you have HDMI one which is only capable of 60 Hertz now the bottom here you have two more easily accessible USB ports and then one headphone jack flipping it around to the front of the monitor you can see that the panel is pretty well edge to edge very nice and bezel list which is great for multi-monitor setups which I plan to have and the display itself is a 1440p TN panel so here are the stand

components for the monitor you have a screw underneath here so what you do is you place the stand on to the base plate here and then you come right up to the bottom and screw that in so that it's held solidly in place once it feels nice and tight you're good to go as you can see twist back and forth like that and then placing the monitor on this stand there's actually a very simple task all you have to do it is line up these prongs inside there and it clicks in and that's it

your monitor is all set and ready to go so this monitor won't really be usable for me right now since I already have one and I don't have quite the space for a dual monitor setup temporarily it will be used by my uncle once I get home though I will have a dual monitor setup which will be great for productivity and I love these displays for their near bezel list design which makes having two displays of the same look very nice and contiguous stay tuned for a full review on

this monitor in the future and if you're looking for a gaming monitor yourself I highly recommend this one as not only is it very well performing and decently priced but it also looks very professional and clean on any setup not quite the gaming aesthetic that most monitors go for with all that said .
