MSI Gaming GeForce GT 710 1GB GDRR3 64-bit Graphics Card (GT 710 1GD3H LP)

today Nvidia's GeForce GT 710 35 dollar graphics card who should consider buying this who should not that's what we're going to cover today first I want to separate this review into two parts gamers and non-gamers if you are not a gamer if you came here looking for a basic graphics card for non gaming use I'll get right back to you but I want to go ahead and cover gaming first now if you came to this video thinking I'm looking for an inexpensive card I want

to play some basic games and have something that doesn't cost me too much this is really is not something that you should consider as an example I have sitting here on the desk Anna Zeus m32 CD desktop computer I've previously reviewed that computer link to that in the review description below but in short it's a basic entry-level machine it's fast it's a good machine it does not come with a graphics card instead it uses the

integrated intel graphics built into the processor those graphics are called HD 530 so it's Intel HD 530 and it will play eSports titles and casual games League of Legends dota 2 Counter Strike global Offensive rocket League will all play at some detail level on the integrated graphics on this machine at 60 frames per second not ultra detail not ultra high resolution but they will play this GT 710 is almost half the performance of the integrated graphics of that

machine yes it is slower if you buy this machine with integrated graphics and you buy a GT 710 and you install it everything will run slower or all your games will run slower this is not meant for gaming and if you're thinking of gaming if you think you're buying an inexpensive machine like this and you want to gaming you want to get better performance then the lowest card you should consider buying is from Nvidia a gtx 750ti which will run you

or an AMD rx 460 which will run you about 110 to 120 it's a little bit faster than the 750 but they're both good cards both will install in this computer just fine both will run multiple times faster than the integrated graphics in here anywhere between three to five times faster you can play all those games I mentioned at ultra detail at 1080p on either one of those cards beautifully this is not an upgrade for that machine what about non-gaming well non-gaming again it's not

an upgrade for that machine there is no circumstances under which this card belongs in that computer or any new computer this card is built for this computer now not gamers don't buy this card really don't either use your integrated graphics or buy a better card if you are a non gamer the reason why this machine is sitting here is while that is brand new this is not this is a five year old computer this is an Intel second-generation that one is sixth this is a second

generation I five 2400 with Intel's HD 2000 graphics in it they were terrible when they were new intel has come miles and miles in progress of integrated graphics since this machine came out this computer is from 2011 so it's 5 years old and while it works fine as is it does not have an HDMI port in the back many machines didn't back in 2011 and even playing back HD video on YouTube or Netflix can be imperfect on a machine like this enter the GT 710 this card will play

back all the modern formats beautifully installed on a machine like this in terms of overall graphics performance it's about 250 percent faster than the HD 2004 apart the integrated graphics are between the four generations of chips this is two-and-a-half times faster than the HD 2000 but half the performance of the HD 530 so Intel has come a long way but here's what the value is this computer I bought last month off of ebay for is a quad-core Intel chip for

now it's an older machine but for web browsing watching Netflix watching YouTube checking your email doing Facebook it's plenty it has all the CPU power you could ever want for basic tasks graphics wise it's terrible this card will be installed in this computer and will improve the performance of high-definition video playback of rendering web pages of it accelerates a lot of things within Windows that the integrated graphics really frankly in 2016

are pretty terrible app if you combine the cost of these  for this machine and  for this it's actually a pretty good machine now you could absolutely buy this and put it on your TV or use it as a basic machine but that's is a whole lot less money and I'm actually going to put this computer on my television and use it basically is a media consumption device watching YouTube watching

Netflix browsing the web on my television it gives this card gives me an HDMI port and it gives me all the performance I need to do it for a lot less money than a new machine so that's really what this is for in terms of use beyond video if you are just browsing the web and don't care about video playback the integrated graphics in here will do it just fine except of course there's no HDMI port on here and if you want an HDMI port to plug into your HDMI monitor again I bring you back to this for  what this really does is is gives you modern accelerated HD video

playback modern accelerated standards for it's got newer technology in it and an HDMI port for older machines that don't have it so that's where it's going what does it look like inside the box let me open it up and show you this is a very basic low profile card and the nice thing about being low profile is this is a thin machine a standard desktop graphics card would not fit in here because this is one of those slim machine but this will fit just fine take it on to the bag and show you what this looks like very small and here we go it is passively cooled there is no fan so this

will be completely 100% silent no moving parts it's just the heatsink it's very low powered card there is a VGA port an HDMI port and a dual link DVI port so for connecting to a television or any type of monitor this gives you the ports you want if maybe you want to run two monitors and you have an older machine that only has a single video out port you can connect a a monitor to your HDMI point and then a monitor to either your VGA port or the dual link DVI port and run multiple monitors so that's another value of a card like this now this card for

comes with 1 gigabyte of RAM on it which is plenty you don't need any more than that to actually make 2 gigabyte versions of this mostly because people say Oh two gigabytes must be more there's no reason to buy the 2 gigabyte version don't bother now you may notice that the bracket at the end of this is too large to install in a low profile machine that's ok they provide two separate brackets for each of the ports this unscrews and I don't have the tool with me but

basically you unscrew these four hex screws you can either use pliers or you need needlenose pliers or socket for it unscrew those this comes off the front this VGA port actually could be unplugged from here if you don't want it otherwise the VGA port is on a flexible cable this is your VGA plug here and basically it'll put them side-by-side on the back of this machine basically you'll have you'll take up two slots and this ribbon cable will just move over so that's how you convert it from being a full high card to being a low-profile card using the included

adapters that'll take you two minutes there's no configuration changes you don't have to do anything to the software it's it's just simply moving this ribbon cable over to the side there's nothing else I don't think there's any is there there is there is a driver CD in here don't use this go to Nvidia comm and download the latest drivers from Nvidia there's no reason to use an outdated a CD and then a quick user's guide that I'm sure just shows you how to install it I'll open this up in case you're curious and that's in like 25 languages go figure I'd um the actual

information is printed in very small print here that's not terribly useful but that's really all that's in the Box this if that weighs more than 8 ounces I'd be surprised you're buying this to get hardware accelerated HD video playback to get the additional ports to run on an older machine do not put an HD 710 all the way through 740 in a modern machine even the HD 730 which  is slower than the integrated graphics in here the lowest

you should put in any modern machine is a 750 or higher or an Rx 460 so I hope that was useful and informative to you regarding low end graphics cards they do serve a purpose but it's a very limited one and it's mostly for older machines either to accelerate their video playback or to give you additional video ports to run multiple monitors unboxings Hardware reviews performance .

taking a look at the passively cooled GT 7/10 from MSI the GT 710 was released in 2016 and was intended to compete with the integrated graphics and Intel CPUs but just I was affair today as a gaming card in 2018 this version packs 1 gigabyte of ddr3 memory rather than the usual gddr5 so as you can expect it will be severely limited performance by students it has a core clock of 954 megahertz and the memory clock of 800 megahertz 1600 megahertz effective for 64-bit bus width and the power consumption of arm9 team was we don't leave any

additional power connectors to run this card although and where they are do recommend that at least the 304 power supply as they have to take into account the rest of the system as well officially supports up to DirectX 12 although I wouldn't expect it to be capable of playing any that ethics total games that playable framerates outfit-wise that supports HDMI and dual link DVI I also supports VGA output through a separate adapter that you can plug into the card but it won't be using that today's with you I can't remember how much I paid for this but

brand new you can buy it for their own 30 parents and overclockers the core that UK today I'll be testing that in 3dmark and a few games as well to see what came to perform to offers and if it is suitable for a real cheap PC build today the system will be using today features an i7 6700 K at 4.7 gigaros to eliminate any CPU ball necky 16 gigabytes of ddr4 ram at two thousand eight hundred megahertz and windows 10 pro 64-bit so let's get started first up we're running

the firestrike benchmarking 3dmark to see what kind of performance the GT 710 can offer compared to the high-end cards of today 3dmark firestrike as a test for both the cpu and the graphics card but what we'll be able to connect today is the graphics core there's 710 achieves at the end of the run an overall score of 710 was recorded with a graphics core of 745 to put that into perspective my overclocked gtx 1080 and the same system achieves an overall score

19,000 583 a graphics core 24,000 820 join just have a power the GT 710 offers overclocking rice I managed to get the 7/10 stable and +400 on the core and plus 260 on the memory if the new clock achieved an overall score of 994 graphics core of 1049 a 41% increase in graphics core first of our games today is the Witcher 3 well done nature's Leviathan based on novels by the Polish offer Andrzej Sapkowski the least on 19th of May 2015 for PC ps4 and Xbox one and as a massive open world game where she controlled the main character air / Ilya and a quest to

save his adoptive daughter Suri from the way all done he'll be testing the GT 710 at 1080p and 720p for both stock and overclocked frequencies at the lower settings we can a 1080p with no overclock the game is so far beyond being playable I didn't even bother running a fraps benchmark due to the issues the FPS rarely if ever at all reached over seven of the seven tens usage spent at 100% and the 6700 case usage I don't 7% the best the FPS wasn't the worst of the issues though as a major and for a guy experienced trumpeter in terms of how much

affected the gameplay if camera movements lagging behind the most by over half a second - making precise movement and even going in the straight leg a massive challenge it got a bit better at 720p but unfortunately it was still unplayable with some input like admit for not anywhere near as much as 1080p but enough to make it uncomfortable to play the FPS feared a bit there and after a 15 minute flaps benchmark achieved an average of 12 frames per second with one percent and point one percent was of named at four frames per second respectively

overclocking didn't really improve it much either of +40 80 encore and plus 160 on the memory the highest I could get stable Danny if he was still on noble with the same issues as his dock clocks although the FPS that's a staggering 10 at some points overclocked performance at 720p third a lot better than 1080p with FPS ranging between 13 to 17 frames per second although the gameplay was still quite jarring which a 15-minute fraps benchmark short with an average of

15 frames per second and 1% and point 1 percent was of 12 and 7 FPS respectively next up that's fortnight battle royale the free-to-play and one of the most our games I bring them initially released as an early access game for windows mac OS ps4 and Xbox one in September 2017 it features a 100 player battle to the death but the last player standing declared the winner at any P on the wall settings for stock clocks the 710 didn't do too well but was still came of playable the FPS in the pre match ordinary ax was around 15 but on the ground during match

arranged between 20 to 25 which made combat a bit tougher times but definitely still doable the game didn't exhibit some texture pop-in issues although I'm sure that was just a low graphical settings causing that a 15-minute flaps benchmark showed an average of 24 frames per second was 1% and 0.1% was a 13 and 10 frames per second respectively showing that the game on occasion that star moving on to 720p in the 7/10 performs reasonably well so well in fact I was

able to run the game at medium settings was post-processing on what was this configuration the game didn't show any noise or star or inferred lag and I find myself actually enjoying it the 710 managed around 25 to 30 frames per second on the ground but achieved higher not depending on the area of Mahurin which affecting many fraps benchmark shows with an average of 34 frames per second with 1% and 0.1% most of 18 and 16 frames per second respectively overclocked performance wise though the 7/10 with a reasonable improvement of +400 on the

core and plus 250 and the memory being stable the 710 manage performance ordered and um being playable with only minor occasion of star a new info flag at 1080p on the wall settings fps and the pre-match holding area range between 23 to 28 frames per second on the ground FPS tends to be between the wall 20s up to the wall thirties a 15 minute flaps benchmark showed an average of 30 frames per second with 1% and 0.1% was of 16 and 10 frames per second respectively moving to 720p and again this is the resolution you really should be using on the

710 and overclocked made a massive difference to the game with over 40 frames per second in a pre-match holding area and there were 40 to 50 frames per second on the ground during a match like previously there was no an fit lag but also most are like Xperia sat-nav but she flaps benchmark shows with an average of 50 frames per second and 1% and 0.1% was a 35 and 15 frames per second respectively showing a 7/10 to be a fantastic card for this game a 720p with

reasonable detail settings lastly for our games today is Grand Theft Auto 5 GTA v released on 17 September 2013 for Xbox 360 and ps3 Xbox one and ps4 release is coming on 18th of November 2014 and the PC release final happening on 14th of April 2015 at 1080p at the wall settings possible with soft shadows the game still complained about the memory usage exceeding the one gigabyte the GT 710 has to offer in the desert area the 710 managed between

15 to 20 frames per second depending on what area unit during the test I also noticed some and fit like and star through a game play which did make precision driving quite tough at times the game also had moments where the in face but lock up completely for a couple of seconds making for some quite hilarious gameplay if you happen to be trying to turn the corner for example a 15 minute fraps benchmark should an average of 24 frames per second with one

percent and point one percent loss of 14 and 12 frames per second respectively at 720p was the war settings in soft shadows the 710 third bare FPS range in between 30 to 40 again depending on what area you are in in the desert unlike at 1080p there was no input lag or star and thankfully no input lockups either and it was definitely avoid this resolution a 15 minute fraps benchmark showed an average of 33 frames per second with 1% and 0.1% was of 24 and 21 frames per second respectively showing the occasional but not particularly notable star

overclocking I had to drop the plus for the 80 on the court and plus 160 on the memory again due to instability at higher clocks and at 1080p the game stolen performed fantastically FPS in the desert ranged between 20 to 35 frames per second depending on what area urine and the game still exhibited the same star and fit work and then put locking issues with stock locks a fraps benchmark showed an average of 28 frames per second with one percent and point one

percent loss of 16 and 12 frames per second respectively at 720p with the overclocked the game was quite enjoyable achieved around 42 the frames per second I've in the desert with no input lag started walking to speak of and intend over 30 frames per second and other areas of the game for the most part perhaps benchmark showed an average of 42 frames per second but 1% and 0.1% lost 30 and 21 frames per second respectively showing the game to be relatively star free at 720p I also tested rise of the Tomb Raider but unfortunately I can't include it because it

makes the video far too long but 1080p the game was completely unplayable and 720p often overclocked the FPS was throw under 20 overall though the 7/10 performed a lot better than I was expected at least at 720p as a 1080p of the games I tested the performance was pretty abysmal with all of them other than maybe a fortnight the card is most definitely a no-go for games like The Witcher 3 rise of the Tomb Raider and GTA 5 a 1080p well an overclocked can

provide reasonable performs at 720p with all settings in Grand Theft Auto 5 and with medium settings in fortnight personally I wouldn't recommend it to anyone planning on gaming though but we'd say makes a decent display adapter for motherboards that don't have an HDMI out though .
