you can always get a general idea of how great a product is based on how many reviews and what kind of reviews they receive well Best Buy sells this the Samsung CF 390 a 24 inch curved monitor that's their most reviewed monitor this thing has over 2000 reviews can 2,000 people be wrong or am I wrong let's find out with a little review let's start off by talking about the physical aspects of this monitor there are plenty of budget-friendly monitors within
the 100 and price range this one stood out to me because simply because of its curve and it's an 1800 R curve meaning it's pretty tight a little less curvy than a Cheeto puff but still curvy the base is a glossy black plastic the bezel is also black plastic but the back is this matte straight line textured plastic that makes a lot of noise as you move your nails up and down the monitor annoyed yet the monitor also has a little nipple on the right side of the back of the monitor this controls pairing on the monitor changing settings and changing the volume of devices
connected to the monitors output the CF 390 has an HDMI port a VGA port and an audio jack oh and an AC port to you no power the thing it also has a VESA mount for those who like to mount things now more importantly how does it run how does it feel what's it like using it as your everyday monitor well this monitor is full HD that means 1920 by 1080 which is perfectly fine especially for 24 inch screen size the images look nice and sharp and the colors are good enough it has an OK for milliseconds response time which makes it a decent budget gaming
option the packaging state set this monitor only runs at 60 Hertz however I managed to overclock it up to 73 Hertz so if you're a budget gamer looking for decent frame rates this one might be a little bit better than some other choices in the price range the curve really helps with immersion for situations like watching youtube videos or playing video games because the curve really helps you see more in your peripheral field of view I'm not joking the curve does at a benefit but you have to see it to believe it all that doesn't mean that there's not negative things to say about this monitor for one backlight bleed this monitor is terrible too dark because it
bleeds more than your favorite character that died in Game of Thrones this is probably because it's a VA panel and it's curved providing the perfect angle to view the light bleeding and preventing you from enjoying your movies as colorfully as you would have otherwise this monitor does have free sync support however if you're using a newer Nvidia graphics card you can't use the free sink feature because it requires the DisplayPort this monitor doesn't have a DisplayPort so AMD cards only another thing is the stand isn't the best it can only angle itself up and down the curve while great for things like media consumption and video games isn't the
best for productivity tasks like Excel spreadsheet editing Word document editing and other things that require precise measurements like photo editing so that's just something to keep in mind overall I think this monitor is a very nice value especially in its price range along with the standard display specs however I can't help but feel that the curve is just a gimmick especially at the screen size it does make things slightly more immersive I don't think that's all that beneficial on a 24 inch monitor so let me ask you this is the curve the immersion of the curve
worth the extra premium you pay and the pitfalls of having something that doesn't work as well for productivity type tasks on a desktop monitor that would all depend on your news cases are you just a budget gamer looking for something with decent specs like say 73 Hertz refresh rate 4 milliseconds response time and an immersive curve then sure go for it if you're using this monitor for media consumption and you're on a budget sure go for it if you're buying this for productivity type tasks I don't think this is the right choice for that so we're 2,000 reviewers
wrong no but 2,000 reviewers had a specific news case in mind and that build their needs perfectly for other people it might not anyway guys what do you think would you buy this curved monitor is their curved monitors that you prefer over this one or do you just prefer flat monitors overall what are the pros and cons of each leave all that stuff down in the comment section below.
Samsung LC24F390FHNXZA 24-inch Curved LED Gaming Monitor review
this one apart from many of the others we have looked at is that it is curved so in the 21st century the curved display is the new flat panel when I was a kid having a flat display was all the rage now it's about having the curves but before we get into the review I do want to mention in the interest of full disclosure this came in free of charge through the Amazon vine program however all the opinions you're about to hear are my own nobody is paying for this review and no one is reviewing this content before it is posted so let's get into this and see what this is all
about so Samsung promises greater immersion and a curvature that matches that of your ISO I don't know for me it doesn't do all that much it looks nice but I don't know if it looks any nicer than perhaps a flat panel display with look although I think if you had two of these together you can really have a nice curve to it and get a nice companion display for it that would look pretty cool but as a single display it's fine but I don't know if it adds anything more than you
would get if you didn't have the curved display although the price here is pretty decent now this is a very nice display to look at when you are dead center it's got a three thousand to 1 contrast ratio which is much better than what I've seen on other displays recently at this resolution for millisecond response rate so it might also be good for gamers for that and the refresh rate is that 60 Hertz on this display it also supports AMD freesync which works with AMD graphics
cards that support that protocol which means that the monitor and the graphics card will continually stay in touch with each other and adjust game settings to keep your display flicker free if you are on an nvidia card you'll need to continue to set those frame rates manually on your game but on AMD it will automatically adjust nvidia does have a similar protocol just isn't supported on this monitor now what's what's interesting about this display is that this is
running with what they call a VA panel and that means it looks great when you've got it in its sweet spot but when you go off center you will very quickly lose contrast to see what happens here as we move the display around the image gets very washed out because it doesn't have a very good angles when you are looking at it from the side and what you get though when you're looking at it in its sweet spot dead center is a very good contrast ratios nice deep blacks and
very little backlight bleed but you'll lose a lot when you're not looking directly at it and we looked at a samsung television recently that is also running with a VA panel I called it a one couch television I call this a one desk chair monitor because it really does look great when you're dead center on it but it does drop off pretty quickly from there it feels like it sits up a little higher to me than some of the other displays I've looked at recently there's no way to adjust it up or down you do have some tilt angles to it though so you can adjust the tilt on it if you want to try to get it to a better position but if you want you can mount it to your wall there
is a base amount here on the back this is the flattest part of the display here at the the bulk of the curve here so you can mount it up on something or even mount a computer to the back of the display if you wish HDMI input over here vga over here there is an audio output there's no speakers on the display but it does allow you to hook speakers up to it i found when i hook this up to my mac earlier that the mac thought the monitor had speakers and disabled its own internal sounds if you plug your laptop into this and lose audio you need to go into your settings and redirect it back to the laptop audio in order to hear it or you can plug headphones or
speakers into that little port right there and there's a control on the back here for controlling all of its display settings now one of the things that I like about this display is it they have made some effort to reduce some of the jagged edges you might see on a display of this size at this resolution so typically when you've got a 1080p display and you're only sitting two or three feet away from it like you might at a desk you will see more jagged edges and things that look a little more pixelated than you might on maybe a laptop screen running at the same resolution
because if you're looking at a 13 inch display and packing this many pixels in there it looks very sharp but when you blow them up to 24 inches you begin to notice some of those jaggedy things going on there so they have a number of settings on here to try to smooth out those things and make it look nicer you have some black level settings you can even adjust the response time by making it slower believe it or not you get a slightly better image quality and that often comes though at the of input lag on games so if I'm running sonic the hedghog here and you can see
just that very slight lag here as I'm pushing the button not much but it's there if you are very sensitive to that but you can go into the picture settings here and turn a game mode on which disables all of that image smoothing so you'll lose some of the nicer image quality for your text and graphics but your games run a lot better because you get rid of some of that lag that might be there it's very minimal but you can turn it off and use a game mode and that's something I haven't seen on many monitors it's not a lot of televisions but not on many monitors there's also
a number of other settings you can adjust here to you I turn that game mode off to get to them but all the standard stuff like brightness contrast and sharpness but you can also adjust colors individually color tone gamma so a good amount of settings on here for getting to display just to where you want it to be they also have a thing called the eye saver mode which warms up the display slightly makes it more yellow and it gets rid of some of the brightness so if you are reading stuff in the dark and trying to get through a lot of text maybe you're working on a term
paper in the middle of the night you can activate that mode to give you slightly less eye strain it doesn't look as nice as it does on iOS which has that similar mode where it yellows up your display but I think if you're looking for a quick and easy way to reduce eye strain you can activate that mode and then when you turn it off it goes back to where you were before so that is the Samsung CF 390 and the more I look at this the more I like it in fact I'm probably going to rate this at the moment the best display I have looked at this year and it's not the curvature
that's doing it it's just how nice the image looks when you are dead center and it really is a very sharp display with very very nice 3,000 to 1 contrast ratio a great response rate for gamers you've got the AMD freesync built in and all that kind of stuff too so very good for gamers it does a nice job of smoothing out the image when you're not gaming so that if you are looking at text and graphics it certainly isn't going to be as nice as a 1440p or a 4k display at this size but it does compensate quite a bit for some of the shortcomings we've seen with 1080p panels at this
size and you can't beat the price either a very good affordable price for the display that you're looking at here and doesn't even have that much glare either so you're seeing my studio lights reflect in here but it really is that bad and certainly nicer than some of the displays that we saw that had a specific anti-glare coating because on those displays it really clouded things up quite a bit so when you're dead center with this it looks great you lose that greatness very quickly
when you go off center but I think for a single desk single person kind of display this is a good value and I think checks all the boxes that someone might want out of a budget display I'm eager to see what a flat version of this would look like in comparison I may try to see if Samsung offers one and maybe do a comparison I don't know if this curve adds anything but the way it is at the moment I'm really quite pleased with how it looks the salons I've been .
here is a Samsung curved gaming monitor I used to play on the TV a lot and I got too close to a TV and it wasn't really good and I wouldn't really get through that game so well I'm I think I'm pretty good against but I want to get better but I think going down to a smaller screen is a lot better I've heard a lot about going down screens is the way to go I guess oh I picked up this one this is the second one off picked up I picked up another one which it wasn't really that great the picture quality was absolutely terrible the colors were terrible so hopefully this is going to be
good and hopefully I can keep it as if it isn't I expect it's gonna go back until I find the right one though I saw this one and I picked up I think I picked up as a boot price is gonna be links in description so you can check out for yourself there's gonna be quite a few in different shops so maybe that will help you if you want this this is a 24 inch screen it's curved so it's easy for the eyes and everything but I believe once you play and you get to use the monitor it doesn't look
curved at all what saw looks like a flat screen which is kind of clever which I've never actually owned a curved TV or monitor before so this is going to be very interesting for me so let's get into the box and see what is inside we're gonna open those box now and see what is inside so on the left here there is some sort of instructions of some of the buttons that is very cool it's good that I think I opened it in though right put up up right so that's either very good so as we see here we have this which is the instruction mr. H see my I read the instructions to find out so in
here there is a CD which is I'm guessing instruction CD I'm guessing and there's all sorts of manuals and warranty stuff and all that so we're just gonna put this to the side and get on to the main bit yeah looks like a power cable which that port there does not go into my in my wall so guess that's why we have one of these so we can put that into there and I have that into the our wall which is very good and quite a long cable it's like so very handing the poverty this here is the base of it this is the set it's a stand so see what it looks like without the packaging on so it's gonna cool on the back there is a key this tab here so we can actually lock it without using a
screwdriver which is very nice that there is the stand so that looks pretty good so all we need now is the actual monitor so let's dive in and see what we can find it the bottom of the box there is the thermometer it doesn't look cold as you look gives it straight but but here's different curved at the back of the monitor now and there's not that much behind here but on the left over here is the power button and this ad G goes up down left and right because you can control stuff on the monitor whether using that so we'll go around the other side and I'll show
you that after I show you this bit here so here is the HDMI there is the thing the VGA port headphone port and that is where the power goes into that's all that's at the back and brief here can be wall mounted these form here so we'll go around the other side and I'll show you the controls when I go behind and I click it comes up with this menu so I think go over to source I can turn the power off I can turn back to normal turn on a menu and I say mode so take a quick look on the menu they brings up all of it so we got brightness contrast you know all the colors position language and transparency and all these cool stuff eco saving plus but I've been
playing on this and using this for about 2 to 3 weeks and I really love it it's it's so good like the picture quality is really good just like my TV was but better than the other monitor that I had a lot better so amazing and I do not notice the curves when I play I still don't even notice them now it just seems like a flat screen which is weird but very clever it's not much on the controllers but I think know they had controls until I was messing about with it and I didn't read the instruction so I just randomly clicked on that seen them menus and all that which
there's not much to do but you can still change the contrast and or brightness and I think which I've showed you and also it does tilt but it's very very hard and I feel like you really snap it but he's about scary and I was trying to really force it a bit and it move up and down I don't know how far it goes up or how far it goes down don't really want to try it though I think it's in the perfect position now I did move up one bit but now is it's in the perfect position so I'm not I'm not gonna change it especially is just too hard and too scary because you might snap it but I
definitely loved the new monitor better than the TV 100% will not go back you may have notice I actually been playing on this do recordings and I'm thinking other videos because I'm more face towards it and cameras just above it so may notice the set of when I wasn't telling of looking like up there or up there and looking in a weird position it was too close to me so so that was a quick unboxing of a view of my new gaming monitor so if you want to pick one up yourself there's every couple links in description as well so you can check it out if you want to we don't have to so I want to say thank you all .
