this is MSI's tiny low profile gtx 1050 it's a two gigabyte card and is a suitable graphic solution for any shape or size PC just look at how small it is now it comes in a little more expensive than the standard 1050 as most modern low-profile graphics cards seem to I've seen it as cheap which is a little close in price to the 1050 Ti and it's a firm contender for one of the best budget graphics cards available this
1050 features 2 gigabytes of gddr5 a 1354 megahertz core clock and has 640 cuda cores it requires no external power connectors and requires a 300 watt PSU although you could definitely run it on less I'd just like to say aside from the card itself ever so I have included connection protection as I like to call it which not many other companies seem to do in the form of these red things and they even included a little thank-you note in the box which is nice
doesn't Riverside though I think this GPU is very good for the price you get comfortable 1080p performance and a card that runs pretty much silently in operation being the size it is you think it would be louder so let's gain through its gaming performance we've recorded our screen directly today as I upgraded Nvidia shadowplay and it doesn't want to work anymore so let's get into it first up its rise of the Tomb Raider with medium settings you'll notice throughout
that the card is bottlenecking our CPU and runs at 99 or 100 percent most of the time and I'd recommend something like an i3 from Intel or x4 860 K from AMD as a decent pairing but this is exactly what it was designed for turning budget pcs into gaming systems rise of the Tomb Raider run at 48 on average a respectable result in my book with no significant frame dips as always our games were tested over half an hour gameplay period and different in-game levels
or locations Far Cry primal next and we saw 55 FPS on average with the high settings this ran better than I was expecting and didn't show any signs of slowdown even when the action started to heat up our 1050 kept it cold and despite the two gigabytes of vram which some may consider a limitation in a newer card even very high settings wouldn't have been an issue so something a bit less demanding now as this is what the 1050 seems to be advertised as a so-
called eSports card we turned everything down in csgo to because it seems as though the ideal way to play and some of you csgo pros out there tell me it's all about maximum FPS with this game it ran anywhere from 130 to over 200 at 1080p as usual and the average was 150 over 30 minutes another nice result finally it's the turn of watchdogs - I like to try this out because it isn't very well optimised and even medium settings exceeded the cards 2 gigabytes of vram but
the game still ran well aside from a huge frame drop which saw it plummet to single figures I have to blame a game though as even my 1060 does this and I've also heard some 1070 and 1080 owners say how badly this game runs when it's running smoothly though we average 55 once again and you could happily play through watchdogs - all day with this graphics card you see sort of a review and I can't be biased towards it I have to give you a little bit of a sort of
alternative perspective for a little bit more you could get the low profile or even standard height 1050 Ti which would offer a nice increase in performance furthermore this thing is pretty much identical to the RX 460 in terms of performance - which has seen some pretty decent price reductions and is available as sub on most online sites don't get me wrong this is one of the coolest looking curve I've ever seen and for a low profile build or somewhat weak power supply
it will do wonders I think sitting between AMD's cheapest rx and the excellent 1050 Ti in terms of performance and price this thing maybe overshadow because there are even low-profile versions of those available as well now I still like it though and there's a low profile GPU it
definitely does the job so guys let me know what you think of this card I for one think it looks good it performs well but it may not be the most sensible purchase.
MSI GTX 1050 2GT LP Video Card review
for the GTX 1050 release I'm doing things a little differently though ultimately the end result will be much the same rather than kick things off with a big benchmark review I'm going to check out the msi partner cards and what will be a more standard graphics card review by this I mean just half a dozen new triple-a titles will be tested I'll also be looking at overclocking temps power consumption and of course Emma size board design this will give us a good idea of
what the GTX 1050 series is all about however don't fret we aren't just getting lazy on you guys later this week we'll put together an in-depth head-to-head comparison with the 1052 gig and RX 462 gig graphics cards shortly following that the same head-to-head star comparison will be made with the 1050 Ti and rx for 64 gigabyte graphics cards so there's plenty of budget GPU benchmark battles incoming for now let's see what MSI has in store for us with their GTX 1050 2gig OC arm for those wondering you can find the msi gtx 1050 TI for gigabyte OC video here
and steve takes care of that one there's no reference or rather found this edition version of the 1050 so Emma size design should be truly unique msi offers their prestigious gaming x version featuring the twin frozen 6 cooler but here we have what i feel the most sensible options in these base model OC versions here the massive twin frozen caller has been swapped out for a much more compact design which will make installing these new budget graphics cards and even the
smallest mini ITX case as possible providing they have dual slot cards the card itself measures just 177 millimeters long though the PCB is just 150 millimeters long disappointingly MSI's added an extra 27 millimeters to the length of this card for no reason overhanging the PCB is a plastic shroud no fans or heatsink so this is an aesthetic choice then at MSI not done this their 1050 would have been the exact same length as the r9 nano the entire card weighs just three hundred and twenty-nine grams and the cooler accounts for less than 60% of that weight
including the fan plastic shroud and tiny aluminium heatsink the cooler totals just 193 grams the heat sink itself tips the scales at 118 grams and measures just 95 millimeters long 9 too-tall and eighty millimeters thick yep it's a baby knowing all this it would be interesting to see how thermal performance checks out and how loud the card gets under full load under the cooler we find the EDB DGP 107 die sporting 640 cuda cause along with that we have four gddr5
memory chips made by hynek's that operate at a base frequency of 1750 megahertz by default the GTX 1050 doesn't require an external six pm PCIe connector so for this model MSI has decided not to add one they've also stuck with the basic three plus one power phase design though this should be more than enough to keep this 75 watt TDP card happy around at the i/o end we finally DisplayPort 1.4 HDMI 2.0 and dual link DVI output these outputs should have
most users well covered and all three can be used simultaneously if need be nvidia has set the default clock specifications for the GT x 1050 at 1350 for megahertz at the base clock and 1555 megahertz for the boost clock Emma sighs beefed up these frequencies at add by pushing the base to 1400 and four megahertz resulting in a boost frequency 1518 megahertz this is a four percent overclock so we aren't expecting huge improvements here for testing our trusty little
core i3 test system has been used and we feel this is a more sensible way to test sub graphics cards so I guess the only question that remains is how does this entry-level Pascal graphics card perform I'm glad you asked benchmarking was often kicked off with battlefield 4 so it's fitting we continue that tradition with the latest version battlefield 1 for testing was stuck with the DirectX 11 API for now there's still a few strange bugs the DirectX 12 that heavily
impact frame time and minimum frame rates using the ultra quality settings at 1080p the MSI GTX 1050 was good for 49 fps this made it just 2 FPS faster the 950 and 6 FPS slower than the 960 interestingly it was 14 fps faster than the rx 460 a 40% performance advantage and in videos favor here as an AMD favorite we thought Deus Ex mankind divider would be interesting to include using the medium quality settings at 1080p the 1050 average is 33 FPS
meanwhile the RX 460 was good thirty-six FPS making in videos new budget GPU around eight percent slower doom using Vulcan is another AMD special though we have some very interesting results here using the ultra quality preset the 1050 crushes the rx 460 with ease even at 1080p doing really requires at least a three gigabyte frame buffer however in videos Pascal memory compression technology seems to get them out of trouble here and allows the 1050 to
pull well ahead of the 2gig rx 460 I'd say this is a pretty disappointing result for AMD here Gears of War 4 is one of 2016's most impressive game releases on PC so it was a title we had to include here the 1050 roughly matches the old 950 which is nobly impressive that said this did make it 15% faster than the RX 460 sadly mafia 3 is one of the worst triple-a titles to be released this year boiled down it's just a horrible console port still the game does have a large
fan base and it was just recently released so we decided to include it if you do want to play mafia 3 with these entry level gaming GPUs be prepared to load up the low-quality preset even with the lowest quality settings enabled at 1080p the 1050 was good for just 41 FPS on average that said this did make it 24 percent faster than the rx 460 next up we have Mirror's Edge catalyst and here the 1050 average roughly 60 FPS using the medium quality settings this
mentor was 18% faster than the rx 460 which just touched on 50 FPS for the average frame rate overwatch might not be the most demanding game but it is epically popular in a heap of fun to play so naturally we included it both the rx 460 and GT x 1050 had no trouble delivering highly playable performance at 1080p using the ultra quality settings that said the 1050 was 34% faster quantum break is a 2016 release that's had a rough road since hitting steam the
gameplay is pretty well though DirectX 12 support has been lost the GTX 1050 managed to stay above 60fps and our test using the medium quality settings with an average of 68 fps it was a whopping 45 percent faster than the arcs 460 when it came time to overclocked the GTX 1050 we maxed out the power Limor and got to it the end result was a 100% stable base frequency one cow and five hundred seventy-five megahertz with the boost clock a 1689 megahertz
however went gaming the core clock speed fluctuated between 1840 in 1860 megahertz the memory is also boosted from seven gigabits per second to 7.5 gigabits per second this overclock increased performance in Gears of War 4 by 7% taking the average frame rate from 54 fps to 58 fps the same overclock was enough to boost performance and Deus Ex mankind divided by 9% allowing the msi 1050 to match XFX is our x4 62 gigabyte card here we see our core i3 test
system consumed just 115 Watts when configure with the GTX 1050 pretty incredible stuff this means the temperature uses slightly less power than the 750 Ti or delivering considerably more performance even with that tiny heating strapped on the GP 107 die this MSI model never exceeded 66 degrees in our game test that result in itself is surprising enough what's even more surprising is the fact that the card was virtually silent under load efficiency really is king in the geforce gtx 1050 is proving this once again as promised it delivers very playable 1080p
performance in the latest titles using respectable quality settings having now seen how the 1050 handles itself we aren't surprised AMD made the pricing adjustments that it did over the weekend that said how does the 1050 stack up against the RX 460 this revised price point let's take a look now and find out as you can see even at the RX 462 gigabyte struggles against gtx 1050 costing around 14% more on a cost per frame basis it's interesting to note that
although much slower than the RX 470 the 1050 matches the value of aim DS mid range contender and its new 170 dollar MSRP based on the games we tested the RX 462 gigabyte card would need to retail for just to roughly match the cost per frame the new GT x 1050 there was one instance with the RX 460 was seen to be faster that instance being Deus Ex mankind divided doom using Vulcan was another game where we expected AMD to come out on top
interestingly whereas the 2 gigabyte vram buffer kills off the RX 460 it doesn't hamper the gtx 1050 s performance nearly much as we expected the 1050 is also incredibly efficient even so it was hard to believe that our core i3 test system was belting out almost 100 FPS Nova watch while consuming a little over 100 watts for the entire system MSI is little 1052 GOC card also managed to run reasonably cool which was surprising given the tiny heatsink the car was also
surprisingly quiet even under full load the fact that you can slot this thing into pretty much any system with a pci u x 16 slot it's amazing as well overall the GTX 1050 is an exciting entry-level GPU and graphics cards like the MSI GTX 1050 to do see a really going to ignite budget PC gaming AMD's moved to discount the RX 460 was smart and I'm keen to see how the two compare when testing over 20 of the most recent games for now the future of PC gaming looks
bright what do you guys think is the duty x 1050 what you've been waiting for let me know in the comments .
their GTX 1050 TI series 4 which I already did to review be sure to check it out so you can get a better grasp of that series Nvidia also released a toned-down version of it a regular gtx 1050 so to speak without the TI suffix and today I'll be checking out a model from that series from MSI they're gaming x 2g version as you can see here I have your pretty standard looking MSI product box especially when it comes to their gaming x-series it's actually much smaller than its stronger brothers even the gtx 750ti version but still on the front you'll get a picture of the
graphics card while going to the back you'll come across on to your usual overview of features like the Twin Frozr cooler as well as a list of minimum system requirements and some basic product specifications opening up the box just like with any other gaming X GPU for the bundle you will only get this thank you note and a separate envelope with some user manuals and optical discs with drivers and software and here is a graphics card taking a closer look at it
you can pretty much see that we are dealing with very similar cooler design like seen on the msi gtx 950 TI gaming X model there is a one big 8 millimeter thick nickel plated copper heat pipe going in an S shape through the aluminum heatsink cooling off the GPU and being cooled off by two MSI's 80 millimeter Torx 2.0 fans which also blow over the graphics cards video memory and it's three plus one face power design together with its custom PCB and other improved components moving further around the card you will get your usual red and black aggressive
looking gaming X design of the top plastic shroud coupled with small red LED stripes on the back and white MSI dragon logo on the side on that same side on the opposite and you will find one 6 pin PCI Express power connector while going to the back you won't be greeted by a metal backplate but that's no wonder since this is a budget tears you pyew lastly on the front for video outputs you will get one DisplayPort one HDMI and one DVID compared to the GTX
1050 Ti version the GTX 1050 series brings in a smaller number of shaders 128 lines to be precise so that's a total of 640 while maintaining the same number of arrow keys on the other hand it has a bit higher GPU clock speed than it which somewhat compensates for that architectural downsizing but then again it's small 2 gigabyte video memory buffer size will make her work hard in some cases putting the card on the motherboard connecting everything
up and turning it on right away I've opened up the MSI's afterburner app and went in to have some fun with overclocking it here I bumped into same issue which I had with the msi gtx 1050 TI gaming ex model and that's the predetermined maximum overclocking value of 1911 megahertz for the boost clock speed of the GPU and 2027 megahertz for the video memory whatever you do or set it just won't pass those numbers and as msi told me it's some kind of
baked in BIOS safety net which is in one hand a shame because obviously I had some more overclocking wiggle room on the GPU and memory but I won't complain too much about it since those results are pretty decent to begin with taking a look at the performance of the card I have a few things to say firstly the card is capable of 1080p gaming at full details and high frame rates in more popular and more optimized titles like overwatch doom dirt rally battlefield one and Star Wars Battlefront while with other more intense titles like for example
The Witcher 3 or hitman it didn't do so good barely over 30 fps you should definitely down down the settings to about medium if you want to get higher frame rates secondly lack of bigger video memory buffer is somewhat noticeable of course at resolutions greater than 1080p like my 1440p 21 by 9 over here but before all in direct x12 titles as that api really loves and benefits from higher amount of video buffer you will definitely notice few anomalies looking at the
results and some games like the battlefield one couldn't even perform at 1440p at all in DirectX 12 of course I completely and fully realized that this series is not meant for high resolution gaming but it's always interesting to see this type of things taking a look at the temperature during idle I was seeing it roaming around 30 degrees Celsius mark which is a really low figure considering that the card is passively cooled without fans spinning under 60 degrees Celsius under load I was seeing temperatures up to 65 degrees Celsius during firming stress test and
around 60 degrees Celsius while playing games bottom line even under load the fans don't turn on in some scenarios while with them spinning at around 700 to 900 rpm which was the most common case of fan speed under load you will barely hear them at all that's it guys for this time from me thank you once again for checking out the unboxing and review of the MSI's gtx 1050
gaming x2g graphics card.
