Corsair CX Series 750 Watt 80+ Bronze Certified Modular Power Supply review
Corsairs cx-5 50m semi modular power supply this is an excellent power supply for an i-5 or rise in five machine either overclocked or not with a graphics card in the mid-level line between say a gtx 1070 or 1080 or a vega 56 it's great for either upgrading older pre-built machines such as this Acer Aspire here which actually does have a Corsair C X in it right now a slightly different model but it does or if you're custom building your own machine then it would be a great choice plenty of great connectors five-year warranty 80 plus bronze power efficiency very reasonable price at this is nice now in this review I'm going to be taking it out of the box I'm
going to show you all the cables and connectors I'll talk a little bit more about the exact CPUs and the cases and of course the pre-built that I'd put it into and show you how much better it looks than this ugly ketchup and mustard colored nonsense this by the way is the exact power supply that used to be in this Acer Aspire pre-built it does not have a PCI Express power connector these things do which is why you can install the nice graphics cards it is of course going to be more power efficient and quieter than the OEM units it really is very nice linked in
the review description below will be a number of links first of all Amazon links for this as well as the non modular version of this power supply a full list of all of my power supply reviews will be down there as well if you'd like to see some other units that I've tested please check those out keep in mind that the links to Amazon are affiliate links they do support the page so if you find this helpful and useful please use those when shopping it is greatly appreciated now I would like to note that the power supply that's physically in here right now is this one this is the non modular version it's the previous version three year
warranty versus five year on this there is a price difference between these two all things considered I think for ten dollars more you get a two-year longer warranty you get modular cables and a couple of other things that this doesn't have it is a newer model if you don't mind it is a very nice choice let's cable clutter to because these are not detachable I could talk all day or I could open this up why don't we open this up and show you how nice this looks and when you open it up this is what you have inside the modular cables the wall power cable the
power supply of course as well as a warranty and user guide five-year warranty as I mentioned before a user guide which says install it and plug the cables in a standard three prong wall outlet four K screws for screwing this into your case as well as some zip ties for cable management which is always very nice a whole stack of modular cables there is one 8 pin CPU power connector which splits into four plus four if your older system doesn't have an eight pin connector that ace are back there for example doesn't so I just split it in used for of it there are
six serial ata power connectors three molex power connectors and two six plus two pin PCI Express power connectors a 10 70 10 80 or even 10 atti or a Vega 56 would work just fine using two 8 pin power connectors with that cable with the power supply out of the packaging you can see the two connectors which are not modular the CPU power connector and the 24 pin ATX power cable for the motherboard you have to use those so they might as well be connected but everything else is modular so just use what you need you can see on the bottom we have a 120 millimeter silent fan both sides of the power supply have very muted labeling it's just black
with the gray lettering so that it's not going to stand out when you install it in your case the actual label with all the legal details is on the top so depending upon how its oriented you may or may not see that inside your case on this end we have the actual connector for the wall and then we have a physical power switch there is no voltage which it is auto-sensing between 100 and 240 volts which is really nice and then on this side you can see were the two fixed connectors and then all the various modular cables plug in as well for cable management overall this is a very nice power supply for either upgrades or new system builds I've used a
number of Corsair power supplies over the years I've always had very good luck with them and I've used this level power supply in that kind of an upgrade as well as new builds in the past this will be in an upcoming new build as well now it is worth noting that while this does have enough wattage to run say an i7 8700 K or risin 7 1700 X I really wouldn't go with a CX level power supply for something like that and 80 plus bronze is nice but if you're building a 1,500 to 2,000 dollar machine take a look at Corsairs rmx line it's 80 plus gold fully modular longer
warranty some better features they do cost a little bit more but starting there or so you're getting a more premium unit for a more premium build a gtx 1070 an RX Vega 56 would be really really nice with a card like this or even a gtx 1060 or rx 580 would also be very nice for something like this now this power supply is not meant for crossfire SLI and for super premium machines but again it's only and with a five-year warranty semi modular the 120 millimeter quiet fan remember that many om systems have like an 80 millimeter or 92 millimeter louder
fan it's good value for the money
so power supply ATX power supply that I'm going to use my new gaming PC here it's the corsair CX 750 and if i put in an extra graphic cards in the future and I'll probably need to upgrade this but the petition box garelu with quick going to open up here on the side or make up here, so here quick cables rates this is what we need for the power of course, let's just take down this box smells fresh like that , sweet this looks fresh looks very very nice good cable handling I can see and a big fat fan is acting my first one over
500 watts so that's very very sweet very good cable here see can remember this little thing , feel there is like a little plastic thing here oh well I guess I do remove that one later you can see here how it looks CX 750 , says good stuff I guess I'm pretty sure this and then you get pickles here on the back wow it's heavy oh that's a big guy and we got and of course about interesting cables here sweet oh sorry yes I'm pretty sure I'm good here on the cable side I mean you really got it all here we smoked this one is very important for sure this one goes into it oh my lord so yeah for the unboxing here of the corsair power supply here
the Corsair cx-7 50 m which is a modular power supply the CX series from Corsair is for upgrading your computers just general use but it does also have some premium features 5 for instance the 80 plus bronze efficiency which is very good which I'll show you in a minute some more about the power efficiency but it also has its also semi modular as you can see down here there you have the 8 pin CPU power and you also have the 24 pin motherboard adapter so I'm just just right here it shows you a little bit about what each each one provides and of course
being a CX am it is modular now we look at back of box you see well connectors you have I'll just hover over that so you guys pause and read it if you need to yep and then also right here to issue the fan speed and I what I worked had to be that's that's that liner that's 450 about 55 percent the fan noise does go up with us part of me I mean looks like oh my hell that is 15 16 18 decibels 18 decibels is not too bad then it shows you the efficiency so it is most efficient with seven under load which is why I did get 750 watt wattage one hand right here just this is like the voltage table 7 4 4 rounded at 750 of course for the branding now it's actually quite a nice
box it's got quite a nice finish it's white and I'd say I was I was quite surprised by what it look like be open up and you get all the boring stuff like the warranty and instruction manual and actually know just warranty and important safety information suppose that's all you really need isn't it um hmm some cheap packaging but I suppose this job has players use usually our car cutter sturdy beer and little box and all that you've got a UK power adapter nice all the other different power cables that are modular some zip ties and some screws to tie that baby in
and finally the pants by now I have to say a deal openness when I got it I just did just to check it out make sure everything's s and there is still a whiff of paint when I open it the first time there's a worth of pain this is it might be from the cables I can't really tell of course it's bad off do not eat because temptation kill you and they want you to eat it I'll get that off in a second I'll go get off in a second but uh this is what the unit looks like very nice Sam on the other side this will the information here again just in case you lose the box and then and then his it's a module
bit so what's this coming out because it's you know it's the motherboard motherboard pins and CPU pen so it's eight pins which tends to mean it's gonna be good for overclocking your your CPU so yeah right and I will unpack this very little bit more and I'll get back to you so here we have the the PCIe and this is basically this this this end there we go this end plugs into the past per unit and it provides you with two PCIe connectors it's quite handy and these are subtle ones as sorry this this to those cables is SATA SATA connectors right here there is one two three four
connectors on each each run Adamo legs and floppy floppy debts drive I really don't know who uses floppy drive anymore to be honest I'm not the best storage device to be honest molex quite nice actually the look look quite nice with these little hold bits on me and put it in take it out etc another one of those and the course cattle plug three pin adapter it a zip ties us upset before no I've untied this actually these cables are quite long as two of them to bring you up to v8 pin CPU now on the back of the box it said it was 650 millimetres plus or minus 25 millimetres so
there is there is a bit of inconsistency with how long the wires can be but um that is long enough for my case as you see over there it's a full full board I've actually had to use this with my old past fly which is gold in all its glory god I'm so glad I got this new 124 pen quite nice the extra four actually are actually like pretty sturdy and that's what I like about this it's quite nice it honestly is quite nice fortunately the kinks in this wire are probably gonna stay kinks for the rest of their life which is a shame but you know you can't win it all right I'm gonna take out
that old PSU and put this one in I've taken taking the plastic off its gonna check this anymore no that looks okay and I'll be back with you guys in a second okay so now that power supplies out and this one's in I've done it's what I've done is screwed in the back I do prefer to use the manufacturers screw so what I've done is I've I put screws that were with this pass by back into the past flight so just in case I do need this pass play ever again the right screw ship with it I will be using the plug has provided because I like to use whatever manufactures given me now
something which is something to note is I have the Phantom down the bottom because I have a I have a dust filter it is raised by these feet so yeah the fans will be bitten out and me bring air in from the bottom and shooting out the back now it's fun to notice that whether you have a fan up or down this is going to be the right way up because the way course I've done it is on the other side there is another one of these stickers apart from it's upside down so of course if you flip this over the sticker is going to always be the right way around so that's what something
nice that they've done really shown Corsair at its greatest now the actual cable management in this case isn't great all I have is these little things right here when zip ties which isn't a problem I can work around it and I plan to do so now this is a full ATX board and I have every confidence that this this cable this 8 pin cable will reach the end of and go all the way out there yep easily look all that's like I have actually cable management round a record and of course the motherboard easy just like that baby reads right and you know they included cable ties
makes this job a lot easier and this is what a non modular power supply looks like as you can see all the cables coming out even if you don't need all these cables you don't have a choice you actually have to use all of them or I'll not use all of them yeah after have the morning case where's this one we've all unplugged you can use them at your heart's content now I'm gonna I'm gonna sort this out I'm going to plug this pass play in properly making sure that I've got
everything put my hard drives optical this Drive graphics card CPU fans that I've got variously around the case etc etc I put back to you guys after that and now that I've you sighs well as much as men as I needed which is just one PCIe to say two ones and one molex one I'm now fully wired up CPU which is down there just right here you ever see that one of the title ones had to run up to my desk drive but PCI you go into my graphics card motherboard right here another fatal one for my hard drives and then use the molex down here right there for this fan at the front now I've left one here because my door uses one so and that's pretty much it there is some space available there's one PCIe slot and there's one peripheral and yeah that's about it
oh I'm gonna turn this baby up on right now I'll put a couple back on it turn it back on let's see where we're at oh no my pc case is back under my desk just gotta wait cuz my motherboard has green LED that turns on I don't see if I can find it you might be I'd see it when I do that so so I turn pass which one now Oh yep you see that see that green LED somewhere in there yep and that shows that the motherboard is achieving pal so I'm just gonna look it up and we've turned that baby on so that was my unboxing and installation of the corsair CX 750 m i hope you
enjoyed it and everything's everything's running smoothly on this beast and this this well i got 750 watt just because it it means that i future-proof it means if in the future I decide to run two graphics cards I have enough power to do so at the same time it'll be modular so what else that's also another another perk now if you can hear the fans that was probably going to be the first the processor heatsink fans they hid they run a 110 all the time which is a little bit away
but it means that my processor stays up around 20 degrees pretty pretty much every every every minute is a minute of this life so yeah just right down there my belt see a bit of it but that is it .
the corsair CX 750 m dollar supply so without further ado let's get started alright so we have all the modular tables some information on the corsair CX 750 n as I see it is modular so I'm only going to be installing what I need that's good less clutter safe space I'm all about that it also has over voltage over power under voltage in short circuit protection and it comes with the extra long sleeve cables so I should be able to get anywhere in my case and be able to wrap them appropriately to hide the cables as a three year warranty also not as good as the cooler master but three years to three years all right let's take this out the box okay the plastic goal
here you guys that with the courser CX 750m let's go ahead and its goal this baby I'm going to have it with the Fang going up I do have a filter on the bottom but I think I have way too many fans bringing air in so I need something taking air out so that's what we're going to do I'm just going to slide this bad boy in here you all right first off is the 24 pin all right grabber 24k hooked up but once we have the 24 pin cable installed we're going to go ahead and put the 8 pin and we're going to go pretty much the same wrap okay we have a pen connected looks good
there alright guys so here we have all the cables taken out of the bag first we have the PCIe cables alright so we have two of them and we have the SATA connectors we have two of them and each has four connectors not too shabby then we have the molex and the floppy drive connector not sure if anybody's even using those anymore but it's there you have two of them and of course you have your power cable okay so let's go ahead and install the ones that we need for this build and we'll move on so first I'm going to go ahead and connect the molex cable with my fan go ahead and I'll do some federal wire management okay so we want to here to
connect with the molex cable to all our fans I have that all in the back still going to do some cable management in the back but at least the front looks clean now we're going to go ahead and connect the PCIe cables to our graphics card alright guys so like I said I went ahead and connected the molex cables to three of my fans this one and a half type it to in the front I change the stock one I say with blue so I put one ahead and put two red LED ones in the front connected that to a molex cable and connecting my PCIe cables right here so everything looks
like it's good to go I will be getting those individual sleeves as I hate this kind of wiring so I will be sleeping that or buying them sleep already I'll do another review on that once I get that happening we also have our power supply cable there alright guys so that's pretty much all I'm going to be using from the modular cables you have an extra molex an extra PCIe and two
SATA ones I won't be using these actually have red ones that I ordered able to get those individual so they look pretty nice a lot nicer than these so we'll be using them and that wraps this review loop .
Pros, Cons, And Final Verdict
The CX750M offers decent performance and thanks to its affordable price it is able to achieve a solid value score. Still, it's not as efficient as the CX650M, which also offers tighter voltage regulation. Given that both units come equipped with the same number of EPS and PCIe connectors, we see no reason to pay more for the CX750M over the CX650M. Really, you should only consider the higher-capacity model if you need more SATA and four-pin Molex connectors.
Compared to the competition in this category, we unfortunately don't have a clear recommendation since we haven't evaluated another Bronze-rated 750W PSU for quite some time now. However, the platform Corsair uses appears reliable enough. After all, it's backed by a five-year warranty. The semi-modular design with only two native cables should make installation easier, while the fan's noise under light and moderate loads is kept low.
We think that the CX750M should be equipped with a couple of EPS connectors to establish an advantage over Corsair's own CX650M. The larger number of peripheral connectors isn't enough to make someone spend more on this unit. Moreover, the hold-up time is one of the lowest we've ever measured. The only comfort is that the power-good signal is accurate, dropping before the rails go out of spec. The 3.3V rail needs some tuning to better handle transient loads. We pushed this rail pretty hard during our Advanced Transient Load tests and it didn't pass the last of them. Finally, the minimum fan speed should be lower (around 500 RPM, perhaps), allowing quieter operation under light and moderate loads.
To wrap up, the CX750M is a decent power supply. However, it faces tough competition from a smaller model of the CX-M family that clearly outperforms it. As mentioned, if you don't need the CX750M's extra SATA and peripheral connectors Corsair's CX650M is more efficient, it has tighter load regulation, and it's less expensive. We'd like to see Corsair add a second EPS connector to a subsequent revision of the CX750M, creating a bit of differentiation. At the same time, it could add a larger bulk cap for increased hold-up time. Speaking of bulk caps we should note here that the CX650M sample that we evaluated a while ago proved to belong to a small production batch equipped with larger bulk caps. This means that the majority of CX650M units don't come with a 470uF bulk cap but use instead a 330uF one, which naturally offers a notably reduced hold-up time. Based on this fact we avoided any mention to the CX650M unit's hold-up time in this review since we expect it to be at the same low levels with the CX750M. Once we have in our hands the CX650M sample with the 330uF bulk cap that Corsair has already shipped, we will measure again its hold-up time and update the
