ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 AM4 AMD Promontory Motherboard review

today we're going to be taking a look at the ass rock be 450 m HD vr4 I'm gonna look at reasons why you should and what you shouldn't buy this board  to find out why okay this is the asrock be 450m HDV are for now this is a very much a budget orientated board from asrock and is suitable for the a m4 platform based on the be 450 chipset and covers a lot of bases but doesn't cost a great deal of money so in this video we're gonna go through we can

do an unboxing then we're gonna have a discussion about what you should and shouldn't buy this board and some of the downfalls and some of the potential upgrades you can do to this board to make life a little bit better for you so let's get into the unboxing okay so first of all let's take a look at the packaging on the front again typical asrock packaging nothing out of the ordinary here but one thing which is actually a good thing to see is on the front here we've got

the support for the AMD Roizen 3000 series desktop processors also it supports the Athlon 200 GE range straight out of the box and what come on slide a little bit more later the bar support on this board straight out of the box for cpus is actually very good and as well capacity added something into the system to make it a little bit easier to identify if this board is going to work straight out of the box with your cpu or not but again we'll get into that a little bit more when

we do the unboxing so on the back we've got a list of all the features so we've got our usual stuff so we've got the ultra MDOC 2 slot which is up to 32 gigabits per second PCIe gen3 x 4 and also SATA 3 support for the end 2 slot support for 4k and 2k screens from the onboard video connectors you will need a CPU that supports that but the option is there we've got some of the other usual features from asrock superalloy digi force full spy protection all those kinds

of usual things also got a display of the rear i/o and also it gives into some more depth about the triple monitor support the ELN a audio caps and the solid capacitor design also we've got the specifications listed out here which I'll go through now so CPU support we've got support for the m4 socket the chipset is the B 450 memory we've got support for 2 dims up to ddr4 3200 plus in the OC expansion slots one PCI Express 3 times 16 one PCIe two times one your

integrated Andy rally on Vega graphics system supported graphic outputs you've got HDMI DVI DD sub storage four times satyr three one ultra n dot two options for raid 0 raid 1 and rate 10 and USB he's got six USB is on here USB 3.1 gem one two on the front four on the rear and you've got six times USB 2 four on the front and two on the rear Audio 7.1 channel HD audio real tech alc889a using the ELN a audio caps and lan we've got the real tech Gigabit LAN and

this is a micro ATX form factor so not enough all this thing at the box to see what we actually get so pretty much usual suspects as we normally would see so you've got your n dot to maintain screw don't lose that your rear i/o shield you've got your installation and Driver DVD a couple of SATA connectors your installation manual and we've got the mother for itself so let's take a quick walk through of some of the i/o connections and all the features on the board so we'll start in the top left corner so first of all we've got our power connection which is a

standard 4 pin supplementary power supply on the i/o you've got 2 USB 2.0 keyboard and mouse combo ps2 port DVI port VGA port HDMI port for USB 3.1 Gigabit LAN your e LNA audio so you've got your line in headphone and microphone jacks moving right into the bottom of the board HD audio and also you've got your gold caps there and the audio chip is located just there next thing we've got our clear CMOS button there is a three pin fan header so supplementary fine for your chassis found that kind of thing next time you got your TPMS

connection which pretty much nobody ever uses com1 connection so if you want to add a comport say this is in the business PC and you've got some kind of signage or some kind of old printer or something that runs on comm system then you can plug in there got a nice heat sink on the by a bridge further around you've got your extra i/o connections for speaker reset button power switch all those kinds of things on this side you've got for Santa connections two USB two headers a USB 3.1 header 24-pin power connection or C two round slots they're moving

around to the top side got your CPU fan connector and pretty much that is it so on the board itself socket for the m4 processor your CMOS battery chassis fan header PCI Express x one PCI Express x 16 your ultra m2 there's as rocks in programming pins there for programming BIOS all that kind of thing which you will never need to use hopefully and that essentially is it there isn't a great deal on this board there's no heat sinks on the vrm and they've got onset of erm this is a four phase vrm it's not particularly good vrm good for up to kind of seventy five

amps of power wattage or input so this certainly isn't an overclocking board having said that overclocking is possible bugging is not the best board for doing that obviously due to the restriction of the power delivery it's not going to be powering some of the higher-end CPUs now you're talking of powering CPUs this actually does support up to 105 watt CPUs so if you wanted to not that I would recommend it but you could actually put a Roizen 939 50 X in here and it will boot although you will need to do a BIOS update to do that because that needs the

new BIOS version which is P 3.2 now this particular board comes pre-installed with the BIOS version 3.1 which actually gives it pretty much every CPU supported that is currently on the market now this is November 2019 I will put a link in the description below and I'll probably flush up here the list of supported CPUs so essentially as long as you're using anything other than the 3950 X and one of the 3400 G chips this will work with the chip straight out of the box

which is a fantastic thing to know now what I have noticed whilst filming some of the b-roll of this on the close-ups I've noticed that I see on the BIOS chip they've she put a sticker on there telling you which BIOS revision this board is factory installed with so on this particular version is BIOS P 3.1 so this gives you support for pretty much all the CPUs like I said previously so if you're wondering if say for instance your risin 530 600 or your 2400 G or your 200 G's gonna

work straight of the box then the answer is yes this thing is gonna work straight out the box so that pretty much covers most of this boards abilities and downsides now I have noticed actually where the VRMs are here if you wanted to you could actually install an additional heatsink on both of these now depending on which cooler you're using this cooler does slightly interfere there's no reason why you can't go on to Amazon and get some of those cheap stick on vrm

coolers and attach them to these vm's just to give you a little bit more Headroom now on a previous video we went in to look at what boards are supported for overclocking for the Roizen 3000 series links will be up here and this board actually comes out pretty badly it isn't recommended for overclock in for anything other than a Roizen 530 600 anything above that horizon 7 rows and 9s there's a big red X so it is not advisable to do this in the standard

configuration but again like I said if you add a little bit of extra cooling or maybe a heatsink on the V RMS then you should be able to get a little bit of overclock out of some of these chips although as most of have seen a lot of these chips actually precision boost themselves up to pretty good standards anyway obviously cooling and power delivery being applicable so essentially who is this board aimed at this board is primarily aimed at budget builders trying to put together a nice cheap system which is going to be reliable but has no frills there's no RGB

no addressable RGB is a pretty much standard affair now that is reflects in the price which actually is one of the cheapest am4 boards on the market even with the p450 chipset there are some a320s which a little bit cheaper but I would strongly advise against getting one of those at least with the B 450 if you do want to overclock a little bit then the option is there and as we know we've asrock they are very

good at delivering new BIOS updates and new features and new support so I think this board in most systems moderate systems again with something like the risin 5 3,600 you're going to be absolute you find this Boris and cope with most things for budget system builders if you're picking up a bargain maybe a used chip on the market say for instance a risin five twenty six hundred you can get those four ridiculously low prices and mingling so paired with this board

16 gigs of ram you're gonna have a really powerful system for not a lot of money so there we go that's been the asrock be 450 m HD v r dot for open mic this is my sandbox on reviews in how to .

ASRock B450M-HDV R4.0 AM4 AMD Promontory Motherboard review

be 450 board as you can see here and it's the B 450 M HDV and the M telling us this is a micro ATX board we've also got rise in 2000 series ready so the BIOS shipping on this is rise in 2000 series so for 3000 series processors you may need a BIOS update depending on when you buy the motherboard it may or may not have the correct version for a 3000 but for 1000 and 2000 right off the bat this board will work for those we take a look at the back here we can see a

picture of the board and then some general specifications but we can learn a heck of a lot more when we dive in so I'm gonna go ahead and open up the box and we'll see what this includes so first off here we've got a user manual with a driver disk although it is best if you can to pull the drivers online or offline I guess depending on how you look at it for this motherboard as the ones online could be updated we've got two we've got two SATA cables here six to give it a second one is a right angle and the other one is just straight then we've got a this is for an m2

SSD or PCI Express SSD this is a screw to screw it down to the appropriate place on the motherboard we've got a rear i/o shield just the standard variety and then we've got the motherboard so let's take a closer look so here is the board out of the back we'll go over the some of the features here quickly and then I'll go into a little more detail on you know how the board will act depending on the CPU that you have installed so first off we've got silver heat sinks on the B 450 chipset as well as a little one here for some CPU vrm cooling we've got a four

pin CPU connector up there for the CPU power as well of our as well as our CPU socket got to DIMM slots here for ddr4 we've got a 24-pin motherboard power connector there there are three fan headers there's a four pin here a four pin here and then a three pin down here for fan headers we've got a MDOT two connector right here as well as a PCI Express buy one and then a full-size by 16 slot there's a USB three front panel header up here as well as two USB 2.0 front

panel headers there we've got four SATA 6 gigabits ii ports to our right angled down here and then these two at the bottom are protruding straight up i've got a front panel connectors here for the power reset and leds in the front there's a lpt1 so if you wanted to hook up a printer port you could use a printer port on this motherboard I've also got a comm port right here and ending it out we've got our front panel audio now I'm gonna get in a little more specifics on the RAM and the PCI Express connectivity Sulphur the RAM support as you can see we've got two

DIMM slots here each one will support up to 32 hundred megahertz ram in 16 gigabyte each quantities so you could have up to 32 gigabytes of 32 hundred megahertz ram supported on this board maybe a little further with overclocking but that is what the board is listening as being supported so that will round out the ram now let's move on to PCI Express so four PCI Express connectivity before I mentioned that we have a buy one and a buy 16 on the board as well as the m2 PCI Express connection for storage so how this will work here is this is obviously always

going to be buy one and this one is going to be buy 16 when using a CPU by an a rise in CPU but if you're using a rise an APU then this is going to run at by eight so you'll reduce some of the bandwidth here available on this slot not that it makes it you difference but by eight will is you know marginally slower than running a by sixteen so yeah so CPUs by sixteen AP use this will be by eight and then on our ultra m2 it supports SATA 6 gigabits a second or PCI Express

with four lanes available no matter what CPU or APU that you're using you'll end up with four PCI Express lanes if you use a nvme drive so that will round out the PCI Express functionality and I also wanted to point out to that raid is supported on the SATA six six six gigabit a second ports over here on the bottom right so you can use raid a raid set up out of those so now let's take a look at the rear i/o so for our rear connectivity we've got a combo ps2 port therefore

mouse or keyboard we've got two USB 2.0 ports on top of that we've got a DVI VGA and an HDMI out now do keep in mind you will need a Rison APU in order to get the graphics out as the Rison cpus do not support integrated graphics so these will only matter with a apu then we have four USB 3.1 gen2 gigabit ethernet above that and then we have our audio out there on the far right so for my final thoughts on this board I would recommend this board for a it'd be a

very kind of a budget gaming or just a budget home PC workstation computer doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the higher-end models but this board was also very affordable as well too so getting into computing or getting into gaming this thing would not be terrible at all I don't think I would pair it with in r7 or are nine if the BIOS would support the 3000 series but in our three are five or even one of the AP use would be a good pairing with this

motherboard but it does also still have a lot of the features too you know we've got a single m2 slot now some of the other boards may have two of them you know but still we've got the single you know you can obviously put a graphics card in here you can get up to 32 gigs of ram although I think that would be overkill on a board like this but we've also got plenty of SATA ports I mean there's the connectivity is definitely here the power provided for the CPU and the

VRMs would be able to handle a mild overclock although I don't think you would want to go crazy with it but yeah overall this is a you know budget motherboard that probably would work for most people starting out and looking to build something under the you know under 7 under  you know PC so anyway if you have any questions or comments please leave them down in the comment section below .
