today I just wanted to talk to you about the gaming performance of the GTX 1660 Ti specifically the msi Ventus I believe it's called the Ventus XS OC 6 gig some like that as you can see it's got a pretty good fans what we're used to from MSI copper heat pipes priests out cooler and even a backplate most of the other cards that I saw didn't even come up with a backplate so that is a nice touch got the silver and black aesthetic so I you know matches most builds kind of moving away from the red which is nice by my side to do it's powered by a 8 pin power

connector and comes with you know three display and one HDMI of course which is pretty much standard for these times but spec wise it's running on the new TU 116 turn architectures the dies measuring around like 284 millimeters so I'm like that and it comes with GD r 6 micron memory is what my model specifically came with the memory bandwidth is around 288 gigabytes with a slight memory overclocking to push you know 300 320 somewhere in their

supports ddrt me DirectX 12 OpenGL all the good stuff that we're from everywhere especially with our games and just to read off a couple of my notes here the the stock clocks is 1500 megahertz boost clock of 1770 but you can easily surpass that memory affected speed is about 6 gigahertz and it's it's a tiny card so it's a reference PCB I'm sure MSI did some touches and everything on it to you know optimize it to your liking no RGB if you want the RGB you're

gonna have to step up to the MSI gaming Edition but that's around like this car was around to 79 to 80 it's a TDP of 120 watts and with my overclocking let me tell you let me read you a couple things here so again stock around 1750 it was what I saw which is actually a boost clock not the base clock but it was boosting up boost 3.0 GPU boost 3.0 was 1890s somewhere in there this is just stock settings right so not touching anything average GPU clock was 1872

memory 16 excuse me not 16 but 6,000 megahertz or 6 gigahertz and average temp was around 68 70 somewhere in there depends on your case and air flow obviously fan rpm wise it was around 2040 and the fans do not have zero capability doesn't just stop or stop at any point in time even if it's at idle the fans are continually spinning so keep that in mind and you can set an aggressive fan curve to get improved performance but when I did a manual overclock plus 120

on the core plus a thousand on the memory because the memory you can overclock is just like I know this is controversy between whether it's a 10 series or 20 series memory clocking wise it performs like a 20 series because you know the 20 80 and other cards you can you know raise that memory slider as far as you want and sometimes get away with them in each game runs differently so you have to fine tune to memory but with a manual overclock of plus 120 on the

core plus a thousand in the memory I was able to hit 1965 megahertz that was the average peaking around to 2010 2020 but anything past 2020 the card would crash I didn't really like that too much it does stay relatively cool so it's not thermal issue I think it's more of a power issue because the power slider is the placebo slider as always you really can't do much for it I was pulling about 120 watts from the wall I didn't measure from the wall just for this card to

run memory clock I got it up to 7.2 gigahertz or 7200 megahertz but overclocking gaming the average that I found was plus 100 on the core and plus 800 on the memory that's pretty solid throughout most triple-a titles again each title is different tuned at your own discretion when I was doing all my testing which I'll be showing you some information here towards the end of this review a stock leaving everything at stock did perform quite well showing 1070 like

performance and most triple-a titles either equivalent to or above depending on which wine with driver optimizations the the 1660 tea I should be perform a little bit better so I did experience some crashing not only on the mining side with this card but on the gaming side as well so improvements are yet to come but basically you can expect this card to run at a 1070 level for that's lower than what the 1070 launched out of MSRP but that was over

two years ago so basically you got a way out the pros and cons you know paying  for little performance or do you go up to the 20 RT X 2060 that's up to you as far as overclocking just I'm just going to be percentages so when I overclock compared to stock in gaming and retesting my games I saw anywhere from a 5 to 12 percent difference or increase in performance not only in the game performance but a little bit of stability of being able to up the

texture qualities you would not be able to run this card or most games at 4k unfortunately and you can but it's gonna be choppy you know around 30 to 40 frames I bet you if you tune the quality down then maybe you can get 50 60 but honestly 1440p is where it's at and 1080p is obviously where this card performs the strongest so I'm gonna leave you with some information some slides that I did or I test give me games that I tested and slides of data for those games and I'm just gonna leave you with that this car performs very well I'm actually impressed with it

this back plates actually pretty nice it is plastic unfortunately the shroud is also plastic fans are plastic but the copper heat pipes that you can see in there and the cooler or core design is excuse me the heatsink design is actually pretty good so it keeps the card nice and cool you won't have to worry about that and aggressive fan curve and a mild overclock will increase the performance of this card even further so without further ado I'm going to show you some
information I'm just gonna let you go from here and exit out on those slides.

MSI Gaming GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 192-bit HDMI Graphics Card (GTX 1660 TI Ventus XS 6G OC)

there's a founders edition comparison it is a lot shorter than a founders edition and out of the box we're just gonna do we just plugged it in drivers are loaded so base out of the box twenty four point five about a hundred and twenty watts just to see if it can handle the 1000 and then we'll step it down and we'll try a couple different variations I'm just not gonna do upper and lower bounds on this we will go through some well try to find the sweet spot for it and the

stability standpoint and the power standpoint and then we'll start to peel it kind of back I want to get a whole range of numbers on this 1660 so anybody that's been really watching this it already kind of knows the base speeds on this twenty nine @ 29.5 130 yields call 138 full system I'm gonna take it down to 70 and I'll do 61 because 61 has been kind of a sweet spot for a lot of the gene NVIDIA GPUs that I use so 29.1 make a hash on Claymore with these settings and we

just dropped it down to 105 watts now the system uses about 35 watts so I'm gonna take it down to where I like to run these cards at it's 61 percent a lot of people I mean I want you just do 60 because 60 actually they're on a few cards especially the 10 70s the difference between 60 and 61 is pretty significant it actually it's 60 actually down throttles the card too much and it

actually drops off like a ledge when it comes to the performance 61 which is just one tick up cat was right at the bleeding edge where it would still keep optimal performance over 30 mega hash on like aetherium but if you dropped it to 60 it actually dropped it to like 26 so it was it that's why 61 for anybody that's like think I'm on just trolling them it's not so look at this so we're at twenty nine point two mega hash we were actually point one more he is in towns 29 and now

we're at 90 we only shaved off a couple watts about three watts taking it all the way down but we're still over 29 it's actually it's actually beating a gtx 1070 though to give you an idea the reason why I wanted to do the founders edition 1070 last night yesterday rather I wanted to be able to cross compare that the 1660 ti with test so the founders edition yesterday if you guys didn't get to check that out its peak speed was thirteen point zero three all right so this is a fifty-five you're hurt overclock oh it definitely liked our the extra core clock fourteen point five one

that's at same power but we're at full TDP on this card right now so increase in the clock is not pulling more power and maybe that's part of the problem with why this car is very sensitive on the overclocks here is that it just doesn't have the juice to get to it let's try sixty five but it is super receptive to additional clock because we saw and we saw almost an entire mega hash increase and I know that doesn't seem like a lot like oh well big who cares on an entire mega

hash let's think about that slowly that's an entire 1 million hashes in one second faster so it is actually there it's quantitatively doing more by an entire million on the increase of that core clock I know the numbers are easy to kind of forget of like what's going on it's just a number on a screen but what's physically happening on the card itself when there's a difference a bump between 1 or 2 mega hash it's it's a pretty significant increase in what's actually going on when

you're thinking of a throughput of output why we see an increase from thirteen point five to fourteen point five by just bringing the clock speed up fifty five megahertz but then when we go to a sixty five and we see a ten we see no increase it's somewhere on the card were where we're at it's throughput limit right so even though we're giving it more it's bottlenecking somewhere so it's at as bottleneck point there no matter so you're gonna hit a hard limit on a card you've

probably heard me say that a few times on a few of these different GPUs that we're doing where we see like a nice increase a nice increase and then I increase it more and you're like wow I can do it but then the the it'd either slows down because we gave it more and you're like well that doesn't make any sense well what happened is is it literally it's like cars down the highway and there's been an accident because now I'm trying to force too much through one of those gates

that it's going through when it goes through the algorithm switches and it's mixed States and all that all the different switching that it goes through when it goes through it on like prog power you could do this with any algorithm and you'll get an optimal amount of hash power but you may over extend it to where one of those processes kind of bottleneck and then you'll end up having a slowdown you'll see that as a reciprocation of the slow down off of mega hash so that's

why you'll see it step down maybe I'll mega hash or two when you kind of go over extend it on something oh it's not that it is it's just balled balled up somewhere on the card now at that point so you need to step it back down give it this right cycle because it is traffic flow just like any other cars on a highway and it's literally as the lanes of highway how much can it go through those different mix states the memory purging the reading of memory and all that kind of

things happen and all the clock cycle is the speed limit right so if you overextend it you can go over it so hopefully those explanation we're gonna let that run for a second hopefully those explanations help what I've tried to do is I read through the stuff that you guys sent me a lot of people send me emails and I try to get through them I try to respond to people some people actually got responses from me on email but what I try to do is if I see a pattern and people

asking the same questions most of that content I mean cuz I get people that ask me like hey how do you how can you talk for so long on some of these these episodes or these videos and it's like bro I'm reading emails throughout a day and I'm getting a lot of questions to me oh my gosh that's a good question I should probably answer that if I can oh crap I got it again oh crap I got it again so then it allows me to kind of formulate what I'm gonna be talking during this kind of air gap time like when we're waiting for a car to do something so I can explain it to you guys

like okay here's how to respond to that well it's because of what I just explained to you just a second ago when it come down to if you overclock car too much and then it starts to slow down what's going on so I mean there's a technical way to explain that but I'm trying to give it to you in a most broad standpoint an analogy that makes sense you know like cars on a highway type of thing so like the super nerdy folks are gonna like get around well you know that's not the way that maybe that makes sense for you know the the transportation of certain bits in this

particular way but the other things like a staging environment and it's not hasn't to do with cars I get it sometimes the analogy isn't gonna be blanketed having a basic understanding of what's going on if you're just a general liner and you're just like trying to get the most out of your card and most of your investment you're like that cool story bro I just want to make sure I can get the most out of it it's still good to kind of know why certain things are happening with

your cards let's take this down we're going to take this down to a couple we're going to take a do it eighty we just shaved off about 30 watts almost 30 watts let's see if you can get back up to near where it was that it will probably will not because proc POW is very it's a very linear algorithm to where if I pull something from it it's going to reciprocate and less hash it's just the way it is with this algorithm you want to dial and give it all the power in the world it's gonna

stay up there and give you all the best hash in the world if you dial it back some it's gonna give you less where unlike etherium is more of like there's no reason to run the card at so much at a power level because you can pull it back and not have a hit impact on your hash rate on prog pow you are going to have an impact on your hash rate if you take away something from it and that's the entire point of the algorithm is that there's not a zero-sum game when it comes to

power adjustments and stuff like what you put in is what you're gonna get out it's just the question now is what's the most efficient output for what hash you can get out of it like which is pretty much the same of any algorithm but it's even more so with there's it's a lot more linear with prog pal so now we're at almost thirteen twelve point nine one fifteen I'm just gonna take it down to 58 there's no point 261 on this because we're not hitting it it's not falling off a bridge

when I pull it all the way down it's just running so now this is 58% power limit we're actually seeing an observed lower wattage and power draw at the 58 power limit then aetherium using eat ash right now on this card or at 89 watts that is something I didn't think we would see like finding surprises prog POW uses more power oh oh no it doesn't not on a gtx 1060 TI it does not at the same power limit now let's just set up some basic settings for the other the other AA

goes it's pretty optimized all this we're gonna do a 61% power limit let's leave it cool at 55 750 on the memory there's some bit tube and we're at 733 hashes for 50 watts to feathercoin let's try that's 24 this is neo script I like testing neo script with it's just a different algorithm almost Omega hash that's our problem there I bet you if I brought the power up to about 80 it would be over a mega hash seventeen now Raven er yeah Raven core needs to run for a bit let's see

what the range is on this so again Raven will put a range on the air with seventeen ninth it's at 19 but it really needs to run for a while burr coin 38 40 mega hash on BTC try something on all right we're at 93 watts we're at twelve point seven nine two two ,like the folks that we're doing icos and stuff of like where's the stuff at like you could kind of tell pretty quickly like the teams that were putting together a process and a roadmap and then having regular updates and stuff so my mindset when I look at those kind of things especially a lot of these coin projects is

you know who's doing it what's their background do they have anywhere I can check their background out you know just like if I was interviewing a series of developers and we're gonna work on one of my projects you know what are they gonna do what is their vision what are they trying to so when you usually have anything that you're building like if you're building a product or a service or anything you have like customers in mind who's gonna use it what's

gonna do what are you trying to solve is it already solved is there competition in that and while there's a ton of innovative approaches to you know this space of what blockchain and the crypto networks could do there's not a lot of it's a lot of Engineers in a room trying to build stuff and nobody really nowhere really afford to fit right so when I see projects Ravin coin when I was talking through beak when I was looking I've went to eats Devcon when I see some

of the development that's happened in there some of that stuff is trying to fit specific requirements that are out there some things that are not that don't work as well as they should we know people that are in the industry know that they don't work no matter what people say you know like the way the certain database architecture works and there was security of some of the stuff and then the whole island and moat kind of concept we have data centers and

nobody can get into them but then who's watching the data center and write those kind of things when you start looking at how that things start to connect that's where blockchain tech in general in crypto currency that's an incentive to uphold a network start to function where they can cross connect and replacing certain pieces and aspects of that industry so that's why I'm super involved and interested in that concept is seeing that I can see the applicable use cases , you you you
